Ryan took place in Canadian Trials for the right to go to the Pan Am Continental Qualifiers recently and in the two races Ryan and partner Étienne had very strong finishes coming first both times. Race 1 they won with a time of 0:34.590 and in race 2 they won with a time of 0:33.67. This earned them the right to compete for Canada at the Pan Am Continental Qualifiers.
At the Pan Am Continental Qualifiers Ryan and Étienne raced in the k2 200m to determine who got the spot at the Olympics and they came 2nd missing out on first and qualifying for the Olympics by only .07 of a second to Brazil.
